  • Job Description

    The Senior Analyst will be responsible for managing, developing, executing, and optimizing trading strategies for the Philippine Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM). This includes ensuring full compliance with regulatory bodies such as the Philippine Electricity Market Corporation (PEMC), Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP), Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), and the Department of Energy (DOE). The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in WESM trading and compliance (mandatory), a strong analytical mindset, and the ability to respond effectively to real-time market dynamics. Exposure to the Reserve Market (RR, CR, DR) is a strong advantage. <Key Responsibilities:> 1. WESM Trading (Core Function) - Formulate and execute daily, weekly, and monthly trading strategies. - Manage and coordinate with the 3rd-party trading team (Powersense) to ensure accurate and compliant submission of offers/bids via the WESM MMS for both energy and reserve markets. - Conduct market studies, forecasting, and offer optimization based on market trends, generation availability, and demand forecasts. - Monitor Day-Ahead and Real-Time schedule deviations and react to real-time market events with agility. - Analyze market clearing prices (MCP), trends, and competitor strategies to drive profitability while minimizing risk. - Work closely with trading team, site team, and operations team to ensure unit availability and alignment with dispatch instructions. 2. Compliance and Regulatory Reporting (Mandatory Function) - Ensure full compliance with WESM Rules, Market Manuals, and ERC regulations. - Monitor and proactively address issues related to Non-Compliance Notifications (NCNs), rule breaches, and market surveillance reports. - Prepare and submit timely reports to DOE, IEMOP, PEMC, and ERC. - Stay updated on evolving regulatory policies and lead efforts to align internal processes with current requirements. 3. Data Analysis and Reporting - Maintain and continuously improve weekly KPI monitoring reports and dashboards. - Analyze historical trading data and market behavior to support strategic decisions and improve trading models. 4. Stakeholder Coordination - Coordinate closely with NGCP, System Operators (SO), DOE, ERC, PEMC, and IEMOP. - Provide trading insights and reports to internal departments and partners such as Legal, Commercial, and Technical Operations.

Qualifications

  • Requirement

    <MUST> - At least 1–3 years of experience in WESM trading, market operations, or regulatory compliance in the Philippine power sector. - Familiarity with WESM Market Rules and IEMOP processes, especially for Energy and Reserve Markets. - Proven experience in WESM Trading and Compliance in the Philippine power market. - Strong working knowledge of WESM Rules and Market Manuals. - Experience handling regulatory reporting and compliance issues. <BETTER> - Experience in the Reserve Market (Regulating Reserve, Contingency Reserve, Dispatchable Reserve). - Licensed Registered Electrical Engineer (REE) or Registered Master Electrician (RME). - Background in power generation, ancillary services, or grid operations. <SOFT SKILLS> - Strong understanding of the Philippine electricity market structure. - Proficiency in tools such as WESM MMS, Excel (VBA preferred), and data analysis platforms like Power BI. - Highly analytical with effective problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. - Demonstrates initiative and a strong sense of ownership in achieving company and team objectives. - Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic regulatory and operational environment. - Ability to work effectively under pressure, with flexibility to respond to real-time events even during non-working hours when needed. - Excellent communication, coordination, and documentation skills.
